How to Make Better Eye Contact

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Eye contact can be quite a sticking point for a person. People that are more shy or lack self-esteem tend to not look into people’s eyes, due to fear. As a shy guy, I believe the reason is that when you look into someone’s eyes, it feels like they can look right back at you and see the “real you”. That can be scary for some, but if you learn to be better with your eye contact you can show yourself as a powerful confident person.

The key here is to have an objective or reason to do it. You want to start making this into a game because it can get really help you start doing it. You’re not going to look at someones eyes because you feel obligated, you’re going to do it so you can see their eye color. That’s your goal.

When you start focusing on the color of people’s eyes, you don’t really think about the fact that they’re staring back into your soul. You can also expand on this a bit. Try to focus on the size of the pupil. It changes in the lighting, so the brighter the environment, the smaller the pupil. The idea here is to focus on the eyes and give yourself something to look for. If you don’t, you’ll just get this idea that they’re staring into you.
